How to Use the Pizza Builder

The builder is designed to be intuitive — tap and watch. But here is the full guide to get the most out of every feature:

  • Pick your size first: Mini ($7.99 base) for a personal snack. Small ($11.99) for a light solo meal. Medium ($15.99) for a couple or small appetite. Large ($19.99) for a family or serious hunger. Size determines both the base price and the per-topping upcharge
  • Choose your crust: Original (balanced chew — the default), Golden (thick, buttery, comfort-food crust), or Thin (crispy, light, topping-focused). The pizza visual updates to show the crust color and thickness when you switch
  • Tap toppings to add: Each topping you tap appears on the pizza surface visually and the running price updates instantly. Toppings are distributed evenly across the pizza in concentric rings — just like a real pizza maker would place them
  • Tap again to remove: Changed your mind about the jalapenos? Tap the highlighted button again and it toggles off. The pizza updates and the price drops accordingly
  • Clear All resets everything: The “Clear All Toppings” button removes all toppings at once, keeping your size and crust selection. Use it to start a new build from scratch
  • Order when ready: Hit “Order This Pizza” to go directly to our online ordering system where you can recreate your exact build and checkout

Pricing Breakdown

The builder uses our real create-your-own pricing. Every number you see matches what you will pay when you order. Here is the pricing structure:

Size Base Price (Cheese) Per Topping 1 Topping Total 3 Toppings Total 5 Toppings Total
Mini $7.99 +$1.50 $9.49 $12.49 $15.49
Small (10″) $11.99 +$2.00 $13.99 $17.99 $21.99
Medium (14″) $15.99 +$2.50 $18.49 $23.49 $28.49
Large (16″) $19.99 +$3.00 $22.99 $28.99 $34.99
Build-your-own vs specialty tip: At 4+ toppings, our pre-designed specialty pizzas are often the same price or cheaper than building custom — because specialties have a fixed price regardless of topping count. A large Classic Combo at $34.50 has 6 toppings. Building those same 6 toppings custom costs $37.99. The specialty saves $3.49 and the recipe is already optimized. Check the top 5 specialties before building a 5+ topping custom.

Best Custom Topping Combinations

If you are building your own, these are the tested combinations that work best together — based on flavor complementarity and what our most experienced customers actually build:

Combo Name Toppings (3) Flavor Profile Best Crust
The Classic Three Pepperoni + Sausage + Mushrooms Meaty, earthy, balanced Original
The Texan Beef + Jalapenos + Onions Spicy, bold, SA local Original
The Balanced Pepperoni + Green Peppers + Onions Meat + veggie harmony Any
The Ranch Hand Chicken + Bacon + Red Onion Smoky, savory, rich Golden
Garden Party Mushrooms + Green Peppers + Tomatoes Fresh, light, veggie Thin
The Heat Seeker Pepperoni + Jalapenos + Italian Sausage Spicy, loaded Original

The 3-Topping Sweet Spot

Data from pizza chains nationwide consistently shows that 3 toppings is the optimal number for build-your-own orders. Here is why:

  • Below 3: The pizza feels sparse — you taste mostly cheese and sauce with occasional topping bites. A 1-topping pepperoni is reliable but one-dimensional
  • At 3: Each topping is present enough to taste in every bite. You get variety without competition. The most popular 3-topping combination (pepperoni + sausage + mushrooms) has been the default for 40+ years because it works
  • At 4–5: Still good, but toppings start competing for your attention. Some bites have certain flavors, others do not. Consider a specialty pizza at this point — the recipes are designed for heavy topping loads with balanced ratios
  • Above 5: The pizza gets heavy, toppings do not cook evenly, flavors muddle together, and the crust struggles under the weight. If you want 6+ toppings, the Super Combo (10 toppings at $37.75 large) is designed for this and costs less than building custom

Crust Selection Guide

The builder lets you switch crusts and see the visual change. Here is how each crust affects your build:

  • Original: The all-purpose crust. Balanced chew and structure — supports heavy topping loads without going floppy. Best for 3+ toppings and meat-heavy builds. The default for a reason
  • Golden: Thick, buttery, bread-like. The crust IS the experience — it adds richness that lighter toppings (chicken, pineapple, cheese-only) complement beautifully. Less ideal for 5+ heavy toppings because the total pizza becomes very filling. Read about what makes it chewy
  • Thin: Crispy, light, cracker-like. The toppings are the star — the crust is just a vehicle. Best for strong, bold flavors (jalapenos, Italian sausage, onions) where you want every bite to be topping-forward. Not ideal for heavy loads — the thin base can get soggy under 4+ toppings

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the prices in the builder accurate?

Yes. Base prices and per-topping costs match our current create-your-own menu pricing. The total shown is what you will pay for a create-your-own pizza at the selected size with your chosen toppings. Specialty pizza prices are different — see our full menu for specialty pricing.

Can I order the exact pizza I built?

The “Order This Pizza” button links to our online ordering system. Select “Create Your Own,” choose your size and crust, and add the same toppings you selected in the builder. The price will match what the builder showed you.

How many toppings can I add?

There is no hard limit — you can add all 17 toppings if you want. But quality peaks at 3–5 toppings. Beyond that, flavors compete, the pizza gets heavy, and toppings do not cook evenly. If you want 5+ toppings, check our specialty pizzas — they are designed for heavy topping loads with balanced ratios and often cost less than building custom.

Why does a specialty cost less than building with the same toppings?

Specialty pizzas have a fixed price ($34.50 for a large) regardless of how many toppings are included — the Classic Combo has 6 toppings at that price. Building those same 6 toppings custom at $3.00 each = $37.99. The specialty is $3.49 cheaper AND the topping ratios are recipe-optimized. At 4+ toppings, always compare against the specialties.

Which crust should I choose?

Original for all-purpose and heavy topping builds. Golden for comfort food with lighter toppings (cheese, chicken, Hawaiian). Thin for bold, topping-forward builds where you want crunch. The builder shows the crust visually so you can see the thickness difference before ordering. Read our full crust guide for detailed comparisons.
