How Our Catering Pricing Works

This calculator uses real Godfather’s Pizza menu prices — not estimates, not averages from 2019. Every item in the recommended menu is something you can order today at the listed price. The calculator builds your order based on four factors:

  • Guest count and age mix: Adults eat about 3 slices, teenagers eat 4, kids eat 1.5. The calculator adjusts pizza quantities automatically — a party of 20 adults needs very different quantities than a party of 10 adults and 10 kids
  • Budget tier — three options: Economy gives you Pizza Packs only (best per-person cost at $4–$6/person). Standard adds wings alongside pizza ($7–$10/person). Premium builds a full spread with specialty pizzas, breadsticks, potato wedges, and variety ($9–$12/person)
  • Optional add-ons: Toggling dessert on adds Cinnamon Monkey Bread or Big Chocolate Chip Cookies scaled to your group size. Toggling salads on adds Garden Salads proportional to headcount. Each add-on updates the total and per-person cost in real time
  • Competitor comparison: The results show how our per-person cost compares to BBQ catering ($15–$25/person), Mexican food catering ($12–$20), sandwich trays ($10–$14), and food trucks ($12–$18). Pizza catering consistently comes in 30–60% cheaper than all alternatives

Why Pizza Catering Costs Less Than Everything Else

Pizza catering at $5–$12 per person is consistently the cheapest catering option in San Antonio. Here is why the economics work so strongly in pizza’s favor:

  • No equipment needed: No chafing dishes, no Sterno cans, no warming trays, no extension cords, no serving utensils. Pizza arrives in boxes, sits on a table, and people serve themselves. The infrastructure cost is literally zero
  • No staff required: You do not need servers, a carving station attendant, or someone monitoring a buffet line. Open the boxes and walk away. The labor savings get passed through as lower prices
  • Zero cleanup: When the event ends, close the boxes and throw them in recycling. No dish return, no platter washing, no leftover container logistics. Compare that to BBQ catering where you are scrubbing chafing dishes for an hour after the event
  • Scales linearly: Feeding 100 people costs exactly 10x what feeding 10 people costs. No large event surcharge, no minimum spend requirements, no per-head premium for bigger groups. A Pizza Pack at $75 feeds 12–16 whether it is your first pack or your tenth
  • No waste premium: With catered BBQ or Mexican food, you pay for estimated portions — and caterers always over-prepare by 15–20% to avoid running short. With pizza, you order exactly what you need and every slice gets eaten or saved. Leftover pizza stores and reheats perfectly. Leftover catered brisket does not

Catering Cost Comparison — Pizza vs Alternatives

Catering Type Per Person 50-Person Cost Equipment Needed Cleanup Time
Godfather’s Pizza $5–$12 $250–$600 None 2 minutes
BBQ Catering $15–$25 $750–$1,250 Chafing dishes, Sterno 30–60 min
Mexican Food $12–$20 $600–$1,000 Warming trays, serving 30–45 min
Sandwich Trays $10–$14 $500–$700 Platters, ice 15–20 min
Food Truck $12–$18 $600–$900 Truck space, power None (truck leaves)
The math for 50 people: Five Pizza Packs ($375) plus wings, sides, and dessert brings the total to about $500 — or $10 per person for a complete spread. The same group at a BBQ caterer runs $750–$1,250. Pizza saves $250–$750 on a single event, with less setup and zero cleanup.

Event-Specific Catering Tips

  • Birthday parties: Kids eat less pizza but more dessert — add Cinnamon Monkey Bread ($7.79) and reduce pizza count by 15%. See our birthday party guide
  • Corporate events: Mix 3–4 pizza types across the order. Include one veggie option. Corporate accounts available for recurring orders
  • School events: Pepperoni and cheese only — kids reject specialty toppings in group settings. Our school catering page has the exact math
  • Church and nonprofit: Pizza Packs are the most budget-friendly option at under $5/person. See our church catering guide
  • Sports banquets: Athletes eat 30% more than the formula predicts — use the “hungry” appetite setting. Add wings. See our sports team guide
  • Graduation parties: Plan for 30+ guests and order 2–3 days ahead. Our graduation guide has the full playbook

What is the minimum order for catering?

No formal minimum. You can order a single Build Your Own Feast ($35.99) for a small meeting or 20 Pizza Packs for a 300-person event. The calculator scales to any group size. For very large events (100+), call (210) 750-2222 so we can coordinate timing and delivery logistics.

Can I customize the catering menu?

Yes. The calculator provides a recommended starting point based on your inputs. Call (210) 750-2222 to modify quantities, swap pizza types (more Taco Pie, less pepperoni, add a veggie option), or add items not in the calculator. We build custom catering orders daily.

How does pizza catering compare to other options on cost?

Pizza is consistently the cheapest catering per person: $5–$12 vs BBQ at $15–$25, Mexican at $12–$20, sandwiches at $10–$14, and food trucks at $12–$18. Beyond cost, pizza also requires zero equipment (no chafing dishes), zero staff (self-serve from boxes), and zero cleanup (throw away boxes).
