BMT Graduation Weekend in San Antonio — Where to Eat and How to Feed Your Family

May 11, 2026 | Community, Local Guide, San Antonio

Your Airman is graduating from Lackland — congratulations. Now you need to feed your family for 2-3 days in a city you probably don’t know. Godfather’s Pizza is on Highway 151, less than 5 minutes from Lackland’s main gate. We’re Veteran-Owned, we’re open every day, and we’ve fed more BMT graduation families than we can count. Here’s everything you need to know about the weekend — where to eat, what to plan for, and how to make it easy on yourself.

What BMT Graduation Weekend Actually Looks Like

If this is your first time, here’s the rhythm. BMT graduations at Lackland AFB typically happen on Thursdays and Fridays. Most families arrive the day before and stay through the weekend — two to four nights in San Antonio. The schedule is packed but there’s dead time between events where you’ll need food, and the last thing anyone wants to do after standing on a parade field is wait 45 minutes at a crowded restaurant.

Here’s a realistic day-by-day breakdown:

Day What’s Happening Food Situation
Day Before Arrive in San Antonio, check into hotel, maybe drive by the base You’re tired from traveling. Delivery or quick pickup. Don’t overthink it.
Graduation Day Ceremony, Airman’s Run, coin ceremony, base tour Breakfast at the hotel. Lunch is rushed or skipped. Dinner is the celebration meal — your Airman is finally free.
Town Pass Your Airman gets time off base. Riverwalk, SeaWorld, sightseeing. You’re feeding your family plus your Airman plus the 3 friends they’re bringing. Plan for a group.
Departure Day Drop your Airman back at base or head to the airport Quick breakfast or early lunch. Easy, fast, done.

The pattern is simple: arrival night needs delivery, graduation night needs a celebration, town pass needs group-friendly food, and departure needs speed. Pizza handles all four.

Where We Are — 5 Minutes from Lackland’s Gate

Godfather’s Pizza is at 8530 SH 151 Access Rd, right off Highway 151. If you’re coming from Lackland’s main gate on Military Drive, you’re looking at a 5-minute drive west on 151. Most BMT graduation families are staying at hotels along the 151 corridor or in Westover Hills — we’re in the middle of that cluster.

We’re not a chain with a call center. We’re one location, Veteran-Owned, and we answer our own phone. When you call (210) 750-2222, someone in the kitchen picks up. That matters when you’re coordinating food for a group on a tight schedule.

Hours: Sunday–Thursday 11am–9pm | Friday–Saturday 11am–10pm

Friday and Saturday graduation weekends mean we’re open until 10pm — enough time for a post-ceremony dinner even if the day runs long. Check our hours and location page for directions from wherever you’re staying.

Feeding Your Airman’s Group

Here’s what nobody tells you before graduation: your Airman is bringing friends. They’ve been eating DFAC food for 7.5 weeks. They want real pizza, they want a lot of it, and they’re bringing 2-4 buddies whose families aren’t in town. Plan for 6-12 people, not just your family.

The graduation night order for 8-12 people:
Two Pizza Packs (Large) — $150 total. That’s 8 large pizzas, 64 slices, feeds 12-16 people with room to spare. Add a full order of wings ($26.49) and a Cinnamon Monkey Bread ($7.79) for dessert. Total: ~$184, under $16/person for a real celebration dinner.

Call at least 2 hours before you want to eat. We’ll time everything so it’s ready together.

If your group is smaller — just your family of 4-5 — the Build Your Own Feast at $45.99 (Larges) gets you a specialty pizza, a 1-topping pizza, and a side. That’s a complete dinner. Our party pizza calculator can help you dial in the right amount for your exact headcount.

What to Order

Your Airman just spent almost two months eating institutional food. They want flavor, they want variety, and they want enough that nobody has to hold back. Here’s what graduation families typically order.

The crowd-pleasers: Classic Combo (pepperoni, beef, sausage, olives, mushrooms, onions) is the safe bet everyone eats. Taco Pie is the one your Airman’s friends will talk about — taco sauce, seasoned beef, fresh lettuce and tomato added after baking. It’s the most San Antonio pizza on the menu.

For big appetites: The All-Meat Combo — ham, pepperoni, bacon, beef, Italian sausage, sausage — is built for people who haven’t had real food in weeks. Golden crust makes it even more substantial.

For variety: Mix in a Bacon Cheeseburger or Buffalo Chicken to give the group options. Our Half & Half option lets you split one pizza two ways if people can’t agree.

Hotel Room Pizza Night

Most graduation families are eating at least one meal in the hotel room — usually arrival night. Here’s why pizza is the best hotel food:

  • No plates, no utensils, no cleanup needed
  • Everyone eats at their own pace — no waiting for a table
  • Leftovers keep in the mini fridge and work for breakfast (don’t judge, you’ve been traveling)
  • Kids can eat while they wind down instead of melting down at a restaurant

We deliver to most hotels along the 151 corridor and in Westover Hills. Check our delivery areas or call (210) 750-2222 to confirm your hotel is in range. If it’s not, pickup from our 151 location takes less than 2 minutes — you’re in and out.

Beyond Pizza — What Else to Do Graduation Weekend

When your Airman gets their town pass, they’ll want to see San Antonio. A few ideas that pair well with a pizza stop:

  • SeaWorld — right on 151, same road as our restaurant. Hit the park, then stop at Godfather’s on the way back. Our SeaWorld pizza guide has the details.
  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas — 20 minutes north. Our Six Flags guide covers what to order after a park day.
  • Riverwalk — downtown, about 20 minutes east. Worth the trip if your Airman hasn’t seen it. For pizza closer to downtown, check our Riverwalk area page.
  • Parks and picnics — grab pizza to go and hit one of the best parks for a pizza picnic if the weather cooperates.

Ordering Tips for Graduation Weekend

A few things that’ll make your life easier:

Call ahead. Graduation weekends are busy for every restaurant near Lackland. Give us at least an hour’s notice for a standard order, 2+ hours for large group orders (8+ pizzas). We’ll stage everything so it comes out hot at the same time.

Order while you’re still on base. If the ceremony ends at 3pm and you want food by 4pm, call us at 2:30pm from the parking lot. By the time you drive to us or get back to the hotel, the food is ready.

Bring a vehicle that fits boxes. If you’re ordering for 8-12 people, that’s 6-8 large pizza boxes plus sides. A standard sedan handles 4-5 boxes. Bring an SUV or plan two trips.

Don’t forget dessert. Cinnamon Monkey Bread ($7.79) is warm pull-apart bread with icing — everyone grabs a piece after the pizza is gone. It’s the closer.

Pro tip from a Veteran-Owned kitchen: If your Airman’s friends don’t have family in town, bring them along. We’ve seen families adopt the whole flight for dinner. A Pizza Pack feeds 12-16 people for $75. That’s under $5/person to make sure nobody eats alone on their graduation night.

Why a Veteran-Owned Pizza Place Gets It

The owner served. He knows what graduation day means — for the Airman and for the family that’s been counting the weeks. This restaurant exists because he came back to San Antonio after 35 years and brought Godfather’s Pizza with him. Read the full comeback story if you want the background.

We’re not the only place to eat near Lackland. But we’re the one that understands what you’re celebrating and why it matters. We’ve been feeding Military families in San Antonio since we opened, and BMT graduation is one of the best reasons to do what we do.
