Godfather’s Pizza Returns to San Antonio

Nov 3, 2025 | San Antonio

group of people eating pizza

After 35 years, Godfather’s Pizza is back in San Antonio. Same crust, same flavors, same Taco Pie — just a new address and a Veteran-Owned face behind the counter. If you grew up eating here, welcome home. If you’re new to us, you’re about to find out what all the fuss is about.

What Godfather’s Was in San Antonio

Godfather’s Pizza was a San Antonio institution for years. In the ’80s and ’90s, it was the pizza place — the one with the buffet, the one parents took kids for birthdays, the one teenagers remembered because it was always good. The crust was different from everybody else’s. The Taco Pie was unlike anything you could get anywhere else in Texas. And then, like a lot of things, it was gone.

The locations closed. San Antonio moved on. But people didn’t forget. The question “when is Godfather’s coming back?” stuck around for decades — on Facebook threads, in family conversations, at school reunions. That’s not nostalgia for a chain. That’s memory of a specific place and a specific pizza that people actually missed. Read more about what makes us different if you want to understand why that loyalty held for 35 years.

The Comeback

A San Antonio native and U.S. Veteran came home and decided to bring it back. Not as a corporate play. Not as a brand refresh. As a real local franchise, owned and operated by someone who grew up eating Godfather’s and knew what the city was missing.

We opened on the west side — 8530 SH 151 Access Rd — right in the heart of a community that’s been waiting for this. Near JBSA. Near Westover Hills. Right on 151 where the west side meets the city. The address is deliberate. This is for the neighborhood. Learn more about us and where we came from.

Veteran-Owned. San Antonio born. The only Godfather’s in the city. That’s not a marketing line — it’s the actual situation.

Location: 8530 SH 151 Access Rd, San Antonio, TX 78245
Hours: Sun–Thu 11am–9pm | Fri–Sat 11am–10pm

What’s Different Now

The location is new. The team is new. The era is definitely new. A few things have changed for the better.

The menu is sharper. Twelve specialty pizzas, two super specialty pizzas, wings, sides, salads, five desserts, and feast packages built for families and groups. Check the full menu — it’s more than you might expect from a local franchise. We’ve added options like Chicken Bacon Ranch, BBQ Chicken, and Buffalo Chicken that didn’t exist in the original run, alongside the classics that brought everyone back.

Online ordering is live. You can place an order through our ordering system without making a phone call, track your order, and pick it up or have it delivered. That wasn’t possible in 1985. We’ve kept up.

The crust options have expanded too. Original and Thin are back where they belong, but we’ve added Golden (pan-baked, crispy bottom), Mozzarella Loaded (stuffed crust on Golden), and a Gluten-Free option in the 10″ size. More choice without losing what made the crust matter in the first place.

What’s the Same

The things people actually remember — those didn’t change.

The Original crust is the same thick, chewy, sturdy base that made every slice a real meal. It holds up under heavy toppings, doesn’t buckle, and tastes like Godfather’s should taste. If you grew up on this crust, you’ll know it on the first bite.

The Taco Pie is back, exactly as you remember it. Taco sauce, seasoned beef, cheddar, fresh lettuce and tomatoes on top. We didn’t simplify it or update the concept — it’s the original recipe because the original recipe was right. It’s still the pizza that people send photos of to friends who grew up in San Antonio. Some things don’t need fixing.

The feel of the place is the same too — a neighborhood pizza shop where the food is the point, not the aesthetic. We’re not trying to be a trendy spot. We’re trying to be the pizza place your family comes back to.

If you remember the old buffet days, we understand the nostalgia. We’re not running a buffet right now, but the pizzas that made that buffet worth showing up for are all on the menu.

The short version: Same legendary crust. Same Taco Pie. Veteran-Owned and operated. New address on 151. No corporate middleman. We’re the real deal.

Serving San Antonio’s West Side

We chose 151 on purpose. The west side of San Antonio is home to JBSA — one of the largest Military installation complexes in the country. Lackland AFB, Fort Sam Houston, Randolph AFB. Tens of thousands of active duty servicemembers, Veterans, and Military families live and work right here in our backyard.

That community is who we’re here for. The owner served, came home to San Antonio, and opened on the west side specifically because this is the community that feeds this city. We’re not chasing foot traffic from the tourists. We’re making pizza for the people who actually live here — Military families, long-time west side residents, people who’ve been on 151 their whole lives and never had a Godfather’s close by until now.

If you’re stationed at JBSA or you live in Westover Hills, Leon Valley, or Helotes — we are genuinely your neighborhood pizza place. Come in. Order a Taco Pie. We already know you’re going to come back. San Antonio agrees — find out why we’re the top pizza choice in San Antonio. San Antonio agrees — find out why we’re the top pizza choice in San Antonio. What to Order First

If you haven’t been to Godfather’s in 35 years — or if you’ve never been at all — here’s where to start.

Order the Taco Pie. Large. On Original crust. Add a sour cream packet. That’s the signature pizza, the one that people remember, the one that makes us different from every other pizza place in San Antonio. If you already know you want to go all-meat, get the All-Meat Combo on Original. Six meats, no debate. If you’re feeding the whole family, the Build Your Own Feast gives you two pizzas plus a side for $35.99 (mediums) or $45.99 (larges).

Wings are worth adding to any order. We have bone-in and boneless in half or full orders — naked, buffalo, or BBQ. The full bone-in order with buffalo sauce next to a large Taco Pie is how you do game night right. Spurs season, Fiesta weekend, just a Friday — it doesn’t need an occasion.

Planning for an event or a group? Our catering packages are set up for that. Call us at (210) 750-2222 and we’ll work it out. Or visit us in person — we’re on 151, open every day starting at 11am. The welcome mat is out.
