The crust is the whole game. Get it right and every topping tastes better — get it wrong and it doesn’t matter what’s on top. At Godfather’s Pizza San Antonio, we offer five crusts, and each one is built for a different kind of pizza night.
The Five Crusts We Make
Every crust we offer has a job to do. Here’s what each one is, how it eats, and what to put on it.
Original Crust
This is the classic. Thick, chewy, and sturdy enough to hold whatever you pile on top. The Original crust has been the backbone of Godfather’s since day one, and for good reason — it delivers on every bite.
It’s available in every size we carry: Mini, Small (10″), Medium (14″), Large (16″), and Extra Large (18″). If you’re loading up a pizza with heavy toppings — extra cheese, sausage, beef, the works — this is your crust. It won’t buckle. It won’t get soggy. It holds.
Golden Crust
Golden crust is our pan-style option — baked in a pan so the bottom gets crispy while the inside stays soft and buttery. If you’ve ever had a deep dish and thought “I want this but not quite that heavy,” Golden is exactly that.
Available in all sizes. The Golden crust also serves as the base for our Mozzarella Loaded option (more on that below). If you’re thinking about meat-heavy pies like the All-Meat Combo or the Classic Combo, Golden crust makes them even better. The richness of the crust and the richness of the toppings work together.
Thin Crust
Thin crust is for when you want the toppings to do the talking. Light, crispy, no chew — it gets out of the way. You taste the sauce, the cheese, the toppings first. The crust is there to carry everything, not compete with it.
Available in Medium (14″) and Large (16″) only. If you’re going veggie-heavy or ordering something like a Taco Pie, thin crust handles it well. It also reheats great — still crispy the next day.
Mozzarella Loaded (Stuffed Crust)
This one is what it sounds like. Golden crust stuffed with mozzarella along the edge. Every bite of crust has a pull of melted cheese in it. It’s not subtle and it’s not meant to be.
Available in Medium (14″) and Large (16″). If you’re feeding a table of cheese lovers or you just want the most of everything, this is the move. We’d suggest keeping the toppings bold — pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese — so they stand up to the richness of the stuffed edge.
Gluten-Free Crust
We offer a gluten-free crust at our San Antonio location, available as a 10″ pizza. It’s a solid option if you’re avoiding gluten for dietary reasons — same toppings, same sauce, just a different base.
One important note: our kitchen is shared. We’re not a dedicated gluten-free facility, so cross-contamination is possible. If you have a severe allergy or celiac disease, please call us at (210) 750-2222 before ordering so we can walk you through what that means for your situation. We’d rather be straight with you than have you guess.

Which Crust for Which Pizza?
Not every crust works with every pizza the same way. Here’s how we’d call it based on what’s actually on our full menu:
Classic Combo or All-Meat Combo: Golden crust. The buttery base complements the meat load. Original is a close second if you want that thick, chewy pull instead.
Taco Pie: Original or Thin. Original gives you a sturdy base for the seasoned beef and beans. Thin crust makes the toppings pop if you want a lighter eat. Both work — it really comes down to how hungry you are.
Veggie Pizza: Thin crust. The lighter base keeps it from feeling heavy, and the vegetables stay front and center. You taste everything.
Specialty Pizzas (Super Specialty line): Golden crust holds up well under the fuller topping sets. Mozzarella Loaded also works great here if you want to go all in. Check what makes Godfather’s different to understand how our specialty pies are built.
Create Your Own: Go with what you’re putting on it. Light toppings? Thin crust. Heavy toppings? Original. Rich, layered toppings? Golden. Want to know how to make our crust at home — we’ve got a guide for that too.
Sizes and Pricing
Every pizza starts with your size, then your crust. Here’s how it breaks down:

|---|---|---|
| Create Your Own | Mini – XL (18″) | $7.99 – $24.75 |
| Specialty Pizzas | Small – XL | $13.99 – $34.50 |

Thin crust and Mozzarella Loaded are available starting at Medium. Gluten-Free is 10″ only. Everything else starts at Mini or Small depending on the pie. Prices may vary — call us or check online for the current menu.
Feeding a group? Our catering packages are built for crowds. And if you haven’t seen our sides ranked, pair something with that pizza — the breadsticks and wings hit different alongside a Golden crust pie.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Golden crust and Original crust?
Original crust is thick and chewy — a straight-up classic pizza base. Golden crust is pan-baked, which gives it a crispy, buttery bottom and a softer interior. Think of it as Original for traditional pizza nights, and Golden when you want something richer. Both are great. Depends on your mood.
Which crust is best for the Taco Pie?
We’d say Original. The thick, chewy base holds the seasoned beef, refried beans, and toppings without getting soggy. That said, Thin crust works if you want a lighter version — the crunch pairs well with the taco toppings too. Can’t go wrong either way.
Is the gluten-free crust safe for celiac disease?
Our gluten-free crust is made without gluten-containing ingredients, but our kitchen is shared — we make regular pizza dough here too. That means cross-contamination is possible. If you have celiac disease or a severe gluten allergy, please call us at (210) 750-2222 before ordering. We want to be upfront about that.
Is thin crust available in all sizes?
No — Thin crust is available in Medium (14″) and Large (16″) only. If you’re ordering a Small or need an Extra Large, you’ll want to go with Original or Golden crust instead.
What is the Mozzarella Loaded crust exactly?
It’s our Golden crust stuffed with mozzarella cheese along the edge — similar to a stuffed crust you’d find elsewhere, but built on our pan-style Golden base. The bottom is crispy, the interior is soft, and the edge has that mozzarella pull. Available in Medium and Large.
