One meat slice, half a day’s salt.
Pile five meats onto a slice and the calories barely move. The sodium is another story — a single slice of the saltiest option carries 1,040 mg, close to half a full day’s limit before you reach for a second.
One slice of a chain’s signature meat pizza carries 776–1,040 mg of sodium — 34% to 45% of the FDA’s 2,300 mg daily limit. Calories stay tight (346–390), so the meats’ real cost is salt, not size. Two slices pushes most chains past two-thirds of a day’s sodium.
- Papa John’s tops the set. The Meats delivers 1,040 mg in one slice — about 45% of the daily limit.
- Every meat slice clears a third of a day’s sodium. The lowest, Little Caesars’ 3 Meat Treat, is still 776 mg.
- Calories barely move. Just 44 calories separate the highest slice from the lowest.
- Two slices runs 67–90% of your daily sodium before a drink or a side.
- The upside is protein: 15–20 g per slice from all that meat.
Every number, one table
Each chain’s signature all-meat pizza, one slice of a large, standard crust, as published. “% daily” is the share of the FDA’s 2,300 mg sodium limit in a single slice. Tap a column to sort.

Watch the salt,
not the calories
Ranked by calories, these five meat slices finish within 44 of each other — effectively a tie. Ranked by sodium, they spread from 776 to 1,040 mg, and every one of them puts a third to nearly half a day’s sodium into a single slice. The meats you can taste are doing less to the calorie count than the salt you can’t.
The reason is cured meat. Pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and ham are salt-preservation systems as much as they are toppings, so stacking several of them onto one slice moves sodium far more than it moves calories. That’s why the loaded slice looks so ordinary on a calorie tracker and so heavy on a sodium one — and why two slices, a number most people clear without thinking, can account for the majority of a day’s sodium on their own.
The trade you’re actually making
It isn’t all cost. A meat slice carries 15 to 20 grams of protein, more than a plain cheese slice, which is why these pizzas feel satisfying. The honest read is a trade: more protein and a lot more sodium, for almost no change in calories. If sodium is the number you watch, one meat slice alongside a plainer second is a better split than two of the same — and the water, not a soda, keeps the day’s total in range.
